Real Estate Pitfalls
Pitfalls in real estate transactions and ownership are many and varied, and Hong Kong is no exception. We have tried to cover some of the more basic issues such as gross floor area versus net floor area, as well as touched on the many issues affecting the purchase and ownership of village houses.
Obviously there is almost as many pitfalls as the are sales contracts, so our best advice is, if you are new to Hong Kong, is to take your time and learn as much as possible before committing to anything.
One last thing to note, in closing, is that it is important to understand that the Hong Kong property market's history has been one of large fluctuations in value. Where you may be used to the underlying income from property being stable, in Hong Kong the rental incomes fluctuate along with the property prices.
